Hey welcome to TYTAN Professional Videos. I’m James Davoli, the product manager. Today we are answering the question how do I remove subfloor adhesive from one of my substrates? So to answer this question first, if the product is fully cured, which we have an example here, it’s going to have to be mechanically removed. So to mechanically remove it, best practice would quite literally have your proper PPE on and remove it using a knife or some other object that is relatively sharp.
Now, today, we’re just using a two by four as an example of the material that the subfloor is on the substrate to mechanically remove. I’m just going to go ahead and scrape it off quite literally. You can see it’s pretty easy in the sense of a knife doing its job. Knife is made to cut and it is cutting the subfloor.
So to mechanically remove the subfloor it will have to be fully cured, which this product is fully cured over the 48 hours. Now, if the subfloor adhesive is not fully cured and it’s fresh, you just got done spraying. You got it on some part of the wood or concrete or metal that you didn’t want it on. That is where you’re going to want to use our TYTAN foam cleaner.
And the TYTAN foam cleaner is quite literally aerosolized acetone, which is going to help break down the chemical chains in the subfloor adhesive. So it’s easy to wipe off and quite literally. You’ll see it will look like it’s melting our foam. It’s made to stop the foam from starting the curing process. And you get a nice big bead here.
So as the subfloor adhesive is trying to cure, say it’s been five, 10 minutes and you want to make sure you get this acetone on before the skin time. So five, 10 minutes, it should be pretty good once you get closer to 15 to 20 minutes, which is the skin time for our polyurethane subfloor adhesive. It starts to get a little more tricky on whether acetone is going to fully break down the material or not.
So you want to get to it relatively quickly whenever you’re out on the job site. If you accidentally sprayed somewhere you didn’t want to get that acetone out, TYTAN professional foam cleaner and get the little spritz part on and start spritzing where you don’t want it. So I’ll go ahead and just give this a little. Now that it is spritzed, you could quite literally grab some paper towel and wipe it up easily.
Just as an example, I use my glove. You can see it wipe up. It’s on my glove right here. It’s not going to stick to anything now because it’s been hit with the acetone. It is quite literally an easy cleanup process. I hope you guys found this video helpful. And to answer your question, if the product is fully cured, you have to mechanically remove it.
